The wines of Jongieux: an exceptional terroir in Savoie

We offer a selection of wines from Jongieux, carefully crafted in the foothills of Savoie. Our white wines, such as Jacquère and Roussette, are best enjoyed young and offer a freshness and liveliness typical of our terroir. The Marestel wine can be enjoyed now or cellared to reveal its complexity over time. We also offer a rosé, perfect for summer barbecues and sunny aperitifs. For special occasions, our Crémant de Savoie is an excellent alternative to Champagne, with fine bubbles and great value for money.

On the red wine side, discover our fruity Gamay and our typical Mondeuse, two wines from Jongieux that are perfect to pair with Savoyard dishes, especially those with cheese or meat in sauce. Our wines fully express the identity of our terroir and are just as welcome during convivial moments as they are with more refined meals.

Wine and food pairings

Description

Our Crémant de Savoie is carefully crafted from our white grape varieties grown in the municipality of Jongieux, in the heart of the Savoyard foothills. Composed of a blend of Jacquère (at least 40%), Altesse, and Chardonnay, this crémant embodies the freshness and fruitiness characteristic of our terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested in small perforated crates and pressed without crushing to preserve their quality. The base wine is vinified at our estate, but the sparkling process takes place with a specialized partner to ensure perfect effervescence.

This Crémant de Savoie stands out for its fruity character and freshness, making it ideal as an aperitif or to accompany a dessert. It offers a sparkling and joyful experience in the mouth, bringing true pleasure with every sip. A perfect choice for all festive occasions or a casual tasting.

A light and fruity wine, ideal for your Savoie meals or convivial moments, bringing freshness and simplicity with every sip.

Wine and food pairings

Description

Jongieux Blanc is a typically Savoyard wine, made from the Jacquère grape variety, the most cultivated in Savoie, representing half of the region's vineyards. This grape variety produces generous clusters that take on rosy hues at the end of ripening. Our Jongieux Blanc is a low-alcohol, fresh, light, mineral, and very fruity wine, perfect to enjoy young and appreciate its full range of aromas. We cultivate this grape variety on 4.5 hectares across different terroirs of Jongieux in Savoie, which allows us to create a wine with varied characteristics while staying true to the authenticity of our terroir.

The grapes are harvested by hand and then carefully transported to the press to ensure their integrity. The must, tangy and rich in varietal aromas, ferments slowly in our cellars under temperature control to preserve the wine's freshness and minerality. Regularly awarded at competitions, Jongieux Blanc is a safe bet, which pairs perfectly with Savoyard specialties, notably fondue. If you're looking for the perfect wine to accompany your meals, you've found it!

Wine and food pairings

Description

Face à la Dent is a unique wine, made from a carefully selected plot of Jacquère located facing the majestic Dent du Chat mountain. Planted by Matè, the third generation of the estate, this vine now benefits from the expertise of Antoine, the seventh generation, who has opted for a bolder and more innovative winemaking approach. This cuvée gives the Jacquère a new dimension while retaining the typical freshness of this Savoyard grape.

The grapes, harvested by hand with great care, are vinified to preserve the integrity of the fruit while accentuating its aromas. This wine stands out with its minerality, elegance, and structure, offering a beautiful complexity on the palate.

Ideal to accompany dishes with white sauce, a generous tartiflette, or grilled fish, Face à la Dent is a cuvée that can also be enjoyed according to your desires, whether in a convivial moment or a more intimate tasting. Roussette de Savoie

🍇 Altesse

A floral and slightly honeyed wine, perfect for pairing with your aperitifs or fish, with a fine minerality revealing the Savoyard terroir.

Wine and food pairings

Description

Roussette de Savoie, an exceptional Savoyard wine, is made from the Altesse grape, which was introduced to Savoie in 1432 by the Count of Marest after a crusade to Cyprus. We grow this grape on 1.6 hectares in the municipality of Jongieux, where the unique terroir and ideal climatic conditions favor its optimal expression. The grapes, which take on a brownish color at the end of ripening, are the origin of the name 'Roussette' given to this appellation.

Hand-harvested and carefully handled until pressing, Roussette de Savoie undergoes a slow fermentation, sometimes very slow, in our cellars. The result is a floral, slightly honeyed and spicy wine with a fine minerality on the palate. A great choice to accompany your aperitifs or fish dishes.

If you enjoy Roussette, we invite you to discover Marestel, a specific cru from Jongieux, which comes from the same appellation but from a particular terroir in the region. This unique wine represents a beautiful evolution of Roussette de Savoie and will surprise your taste buds.

Wine and food pairings

Description

Marestel, the geographical designation of Roussette de Savoie, is a rich and refined wine, perfect for pairing with the finest dishes such as pan-fried foie gras or scallops. This exceptional wine comes from the small hillside of Marestel, located in the municipality of Jongieux, whose ideal exposure gives it remarkable qualities. The terroir, situated on the slopes of Mont Charvaz, offers a splendid panorama of the Rhône and the Ain department. It is a difficult place to access, with some parcels not being mechanized and slopes reaching up to 45%, making the use of a hotte essential during harvest.

Marestel is cultivated on only 0.75 hectares, making it a rare and precious wine. Very different from Roussette de Savoie in aromas and taste right from the harvest, it stands out due to its slow fermentation, which allows it to develop its full aromatic richness. This wine is part of the great white wines of Savoie with aging potential. Over time, it gains complexity. Once discovered, you will enjoy sharing it and introducing it to your loved ones.

🍇 Chardonnay

An elegant Chardonnay with floral aromas and a creamy texture, perfectly suited to accompany your fish and poultry dishes.

Wine and food pairings

Description

Chardonnay, a globally known grape variety, has been cultivated in Savoie for a long time and is part of our region's winemaking heritage. On our estate, we cultivate Chardonnay on 0.80 hectares, with the oldest plot dating back to 1964. The grapes are hand-harvested and immediately pressed upon arrival at the winery to preserve their freshness. After pressing, the juice ferments under temperature control to ensure optimal fermentation. During aging, regular stirring (bâtonnage) is carried out to enrich the wine's texture.

The Chardonnay of Jongieux is distinguished by its beautiful pale yellow color and delicate nose with white flower aromas. On the palate, it offers a creamy texture and great finesse. This elegant and fruity wine pairs wonderfully with fish or poultry dishes and is an excellent choice for lovers of white wines from Savoie.

Description

Savoie Rosé is a fruity and fresh wine, ideal for pairing with your grilled dishes or any other barbecue or plancha-cooked meal. Perfect on the terrace as soon as the first rays of sunshine appear, this wine adds a pleasant freshness to your summer meals, especially on the hottest days. It comes from the Gamay grape, also used for our red wine, but with a different vinification method: for the rosé, the grapes are pressed immediately after harvest, giving it its delicate color and fruity aromas. In contrast, for red wine, the grapes ferment in tank for seven days before being pressed.

During your visit to the cellar in Jongieux, Savoie, you may have the opportunity to taste the fermenting must (grape juice), with aromas of strawberry and raspberry. These red fruit notes, which are quite prominent at first, are found in the wine in a more subtle and elegant way. This Savoie Rosé is the ideal drink for convivial summer moments, combining lightness and pleasure.

Description

Jongieux Rouge is an elegant wine made from the Gamay grape, which is found in many French wine regions but finds a unique expression here in Jongieux, Savoie. We dedicate 4 hectares of vineyards, carefully cultivated to produce a fruity, light, and well-balanced wine, perfect for pairing with your hot dishes or charcuterie. This wine, loved by all, perfectly reflects the character of the Savoyard terroir.

The Gamay grapes used for our Jongieux Rouge are hand-harvested. Depending on the weather and the quality of the grapes, a rigorous selection of bunches is made before fermentation. The grapes are then placed in tanks, where they ferment for 7 days before being pressed. We intervene as little as possible to preserve the integrity of the berries and thus obtain maximum fruity aromas, characteristic of Jongieux Rouge.

Jongieux Rouge - Mondeuse

🍇 Mondeuse

A tannic wine rich in aromas of red fruits and spices, perfect to pair with your meat dishes in sauce and traditional Savoyard meals.

Wine and food pairings

Description

Mondeuse is a typically Savoyard grape, considered one of the ancestors of Syrah. It expresses itself fully in the communes of Jongieux and Billième. Grown on 3 hectares, this variety produces large clusters with blue-black berries that ripen under ideal conditions. It produces wines with a purple hue, tannic, powerful, and marked by aromas of red fruits and spices, offering great depth and complexity.

As with our other grapes, the harvest is done by hand. The vinification, carefully carried out in our cellar, preserves all the richness of the fruit. Mondeuse pairs wonderfully with meat dishes in sauce and traditional Savoyard fare. For an original tasting, try it with raclette or tartiflette instead of the traditional white wine. Typical of Jongieux and Savoie, this wine will give you a new perspective on food and wine pairings.

Description

Cuvée Matè is a tribute to François Bruisset, Antoine's great-great-grandfather, nicknamed "Matè" for his legendary strength. This exceptional wine comes from grapes harvested from plots planted in the 1970s by Francis Chevallier, Antoine's grandfather. It undergoes a long maturation in tank and then in oak barrels, following a traditional method that preserves the authenticity of the flavors.

The maturing process begins in the spring following the harvest, and the wine spends 10 to 12 months in oak barrels, followed by an additional 9 to 12 months in tank. No new barrels are used to avoid overpowering the wine and to preserve the typical character of the Mondeuse. The result is a fruity, spicy wine with subtle roasted notes, smooth tannins, and great elegance. If you are a Mondeuse fan, this cuvée will charm you with its finesse and unique identity.

The history of the wines of Jongieux in Savoie

The wine of Jongieux is closely linked to the wine-growing history of the region, which dates back over 2,000 years. Three key dates mark the evolution of this unique terroir:

  • 1432: The Altesse grape variety, originally from Cyprus, was introduced into Savoie by Count Marest, giving birth to the famous Roussette de Savoie. The wine produced on the slopes of Jongieux was named Marestel, in honor of this iconic location.
  • 1973: Savoie obtained the protected designation of origin "Vin de Savoie", thanks to improvements in wine quality and the popularization of winter sports, which contributed to the growth of the vineyards.
  • 1989: The Jongieux vineyard was granted the geographical denomination "Vin de Savoie Jongieux", a well-deserved recognition of the expertise of the local winemakers.

Today, the wines of Jongieux, renowned for their quality and typicity, embody a true living heritage. Between the river and the mountains, this exceptional terroir continues to produce authentic wines, the result of the passion and commitment of the winemakers, who remain faithful to the Savoyard traditions.
